Established in 2021 in Aragona, a town situated near the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Valley of the Temples and the Scala dei Turchi, Apenera Gin is distilled in a restored historic warehouse. The distillation process follows the London Dry method and employs the state-of-the-art Müeller copper alembic. This artisanal approach ensures a delicate extraction of essential oils, preserving the integrity of each botanical and resulting in a gin of remarkable complexity and elegance.
Crafted exclusively with botanicals native to the island, Apenera Gin offers a sensory journey through Sicily’s rich landscapes. Key ingredients include juniper berries from the Etna region, Ribera IGP orange peels, lemons and pink grapefruits from Syracuse, and the distinctive addition of black bee honey, which imparts unique citrus and spicy notes. The botanical blend is further enriched with basil, wild fennel seeds, thyme, mint from Agrigento, and sage from Ragusa, resulting in a complex aromatic profile.
The founders of Apenera Gin, Jerry Prestigiacomo and Giusy Cipolla, have infused their passion for Sicily into every aspect of the gin’s creation. Their mission is to celebrate the island’s identity and history, offering a product that embodies its spirit.
The Gin Guide Awards are renowned for their rigorous evaluation process, involving blind tastings by an international panel of judges. Apenera Gin’s victory in the “Contemporary Gin” and “Best in Italy” categories highlight its exceptional quality and the successful representation of Sicilian terroir in the world of spirits.
