In recent years, Greek tsipouro has evolved from its traditional identity into a more refined expression, earning a distinct place among spirits. Loco Docko represents such a fresh approach one we had the chance to taste.

Based in Karditsa, at the heart of Thessaly, the region with the highest tsipouro production in Greece, Loco Docko Distillery creates a spirit with a funky name, a vividly colored label, and a truly distinctive flavor. Behind Loco Docko stand three key figures: Christos Vavatsis, with many years of expertise in distillation, Dimitris Vavatsis, with over thirty years of experience in the distribution and sales of spirits and Stavros Stavrakis, a well-established entrepreneur in the fields of labeling and branding.

The 200ml bottle, also available in 500ml arrived in our hands in an impressive square wooden case. At first glance, we were captivated by the beige label highlighted with bright orange details, and of course, the bold “Loco Docko” name in a playful, standout font.

Inspired by the terroir and native grape varieties, Loco Docko tsipouro is crafted from three exceptional Greek grapes: Assyrtiko, Agiorgitiko, and Malagousia. Through multiple distillations, six months of resting in stainless steel tanks, careful dilution, and filtration, the final spirit delivers aromatic intensity, a bold taste, and finish.

When served in the glass, the liquid is crystal clear. On the nose, the alcohol is pronounced, accompanied by sweet grape and raisin notes, citrus, herbal undertones, and delightful aromas of white blossoms such as orange flowers and jasmine, with hints of licorice, lemongrass, and mastiha.

On the palate, it reveals flavors of grape, citrus, and licorice, enriched by sweet and peppery notes, along with delicate traces of white flowers.

The finish is of medium length, with aromatic touches of orange and bitter orange, leaving a slightly oily texture.

Loco Docko stands apart from the traditional style of tsipouro we’re used to. It’s easy to drink, enjoyable with just a few drops of water or ice and, of course, good company.
